Seventeen girls at Gloucester High School are expecting babies. The school started looking into the matter around October when an unusual number of girls began going to the school clinic to find out if they were pregnant. Several which had returned multiple times to get pregnancy tests, and after hearing the results, some were more upset to find out that they weren't pregnant than the ones that were. After some simple questions, school officials found out that nearly half of the expecting students, non older than 16, confesssed to making a pact to get pregnant and to raise their babies together. One graduate made the comment that they're so excited to finally have someone to love them, which is why they are wanting to have babies. The high school has done perhaps too good of a job embracing the young mothers by offering a free on-site day care center. By May, the school nurse administered around 150 pregnancy tests to the students. Therefore, Gloucester's elected school comittee plans to vote on whether or not to provide contraceptives, especially if they're not going to use them.
In my opinion, these girls are just naive and immature. They do not realize what they are giving up by having these babies at such a young age. To purposely get pregnant before you even have your drivers licesne is just dumb. Accidents happen, and that's ok, but they are giving up their childhood for a child of their own just so they can feel loved. I mean, if that's what you want, get a dog! They have no idea what's in store for them. They are still abiding by the rules from their own parents and at the same time, they will have to make their own rules for their babies, and set good examples for them. It's a pretty tortuous thing if you ask me.

Becky,
I agree they don't have a clue what is all involved with a child.
Do you think the girls will be still together once the "new" has gone? I'm anxious to hear about them in a year or two, just to hear what they have to say about it.
Lisa
I totally agree with you. The choices these teenagers are making is something they are going to have to deal with for the rest of their life. Its not like baby sitting and then give the kid back at the end of the night.
I'm anxious to hear if they will be together too, and to see if they got the plan that they wanted. I would love to hear what these mothers have to say about this.
